Longcat Meowth, also known as Gigantamax Meowth, has returned to occupy Pokémon Dens scattered across the Galar region’s vast Wild Area.
“This stretched Scratch Cat Pokémon does not normally appear in the Wild Area, so take this special opportunity to search Wild Area dens and see if you encounter one,” reads a news announcement on Nintendo eShop.
Gigantamax Meowth’s Pokémon Shield Pokédex entry describes its body as having “grown incredibly long and the coin on its forehead has grown incredibly large—all thanks to Gigantamax power.”
The tall, slender cat was previously available as a Mystery Gift to those who purchased Pokémon Sword or Shield by January 15, 2020; it’s currently unknown if longcat Meowth will revisit the Wild Area again after this event, but it’s not too far of a stretch. Anything could happen.
Players have until 8:59 AM Eastern time on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 to catch the Normal-type Pokémon. To ensure you’re receiving the latest game content, open the menu in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield and select “Mystery Gift” then “Get the Wild Area News.”
Our video below shows us encountering a modest 3-star Gigantamax Meowth. Its cry, as it enters the battle, may sound all too familiar to Pokémon fans who watch the series’ anime; a resounding “meow, meow, meow” echos from deep within the cat’s lungs. And this is indeed different from Meowth’s normal cry. It’s the cat’s meow.
